*Applications for the 2023 CLC and ROSE Trainings are now closed. Thank you for your interest.

Thank you for your interest in attending one of the Lactation Counselor Training Programs and joining the Vital Village Networks Breastfeeding Scholars Cohort.  We have two training opportunities to select from:

  1. The Community Transformer and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training hosted by the Boston Breastfeeding Coalition and Vital Village Network in partnership with Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE)

Training Dates: April 25th-27th, 2023

Training Location: Virtually

The ROSE Community Transformer Training workshop occurs over the first two-days utilizing an evidence-based curriculum on providing peer breastfeeding support. During the training, individuals learn the essential skills for providing peer counseling in the area of lactation management and methods for making referrals to resources for interventions outside of their scope of practice. The third day of  the workshop is designed and led by  Boston Breastfeeding Coalition members and will review how to organize and host a lactation support group.

2. The Virtual Certified Lactation Counselor Training Program hosted by the Boston Breastfeeding Coalition and Vital Village Networks in partnership with the Healthy Children's Project Center for Breastfeeding

Training Dates: This virtual training includes 52-hours of course curriculum that can be completed over the course of 4 months (May-August).

Training Location: Virtually. Read more about the Center for Breastfeeding's requirements for the CLC training here

Participants will have earned 52 L-CERPS upon completion of the training and be prepared to sit for the CLC exam. The online training will be completed individually at your own pace, but you are expected to stay on-track with your training curriculum. Your scholar cohort will meet monthly at Scholar Support Nights to check in on progress and receive support or clarification about course material, and weekly office hours with mentors will be available to support with training material.

After completing either the ROSE and/or CLC training, scholarship recipients will complete 6 months of volunteering with a breastfeeding support group or our breastfeeding Warmline. These support groups are currently being held virtually.

The Boston Breastfeeding Coalition’s mission is to improve access to breastfeeding support for every parent and caregiver in Boston. One way we work toward this mission is by sponsoring lactation educator training.  Our goal is to train community members who live or work in communities with inequitable access to breastfeeding support or are part of a group that is underrepresented in the professional breastfeeding field. We especially hope to support those that wish to pursue a career in lactation counseling, but would be unable to attend a training like the one we offer without a scholarship. By training community members who meet one or more of these criteria, we are able to integrate essential breastfeeding support into a community through the empowerment of its own members while addressing disparities in both breastfeeding rates and lactation professionals.

If you have questions at any time about the application or our work, you may contact us by email at bostonbreastfeeding@bmc.org. Please scroll down to start the application.
